I am a psychosexual and relationship therapist, and I offer couples or individuals the opportunity to discuss in a safe and confidential environment the issues preventing them from enjoying their potential sexual functioning.

These issues can have a significant impact on a relationship and strain marital life because talking about sex does not always come naturally.

What is psychosexual therapy?

Psychosexual therapy, also known as sex therapy, is a couple and individual therapy treatment that addresses sexual difficulties.

Commonly treatable sexual dysfunctions in men are erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, sex addiction, delayed ejaculation, low desire, anorgasmia, and painful sex.

Sexual issues most commonly experienced by women include vaginismus, painful penetrative sex, anorgasmia, low desire, and dyspareunia.

Often, sexual problems with very obvious physical symptoms, such as pain (e.g. vaginismus) or difficulty in maintaining erections, can be treated by specific physical exercises. These would be explained by my, your therapist but practised by you alone at home.

What does Psychosexual therapy involve?

Together with me as your sex therapist, we will go through an initial assessment to evaluate if psychosexual therapy is the right treatment for you. After the initial evaluation and sexual history taking, I will outline a treatment strategy including treatment options for you as an individual or couple. Treatment plans vary from person to person and from couple to couple.

Using a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy and relationship counselling, psychosexual therapy can be very effective in resolving sexual problems.

If appropriate, I will establish whether clients need to see their GP or another specialist for medical advice. Psychosexual therapists do not perform any physical examination on their clients.

Clients are encouraged to set their own goals, based on what they wish to achieve and possible outcome measures. When the problem involves a current relationship, it can sometimes be helpful if both of you participate in the therapy. In cases where more of a relationship focus is needed, couple therapy or marriage counselling will be recommended.

My clinical practice is in London and in Gibraltar. I offer online therapy as well for people who prefer it or who cannot attend in person. My clinical hours are Monday to Friday, from 9am to 7pm UK or Gibraltar time.

I hold a diploma in psychosexual therapy and relationship therapy. This specialist training qualifies me to work with sexual and relationship issues. I undergo a monthly hour of supervision and I adhere to the COSRT code of practice.
